Euseby Isham

Euseby Isham married Anne Pulton of Debrough. They had 20 children. Five sons and five daughters lived to maturity. Euseby spent much of his life living on a leasehold farm in Ringstead that belonged to the Mordaunts, relations of his mother. Raising such a large family was a severe finincial strain on Eusegy and Anne. "...nott beinge soe well furnished with worldly helpes as carefull for the comodious bestoeinge of that they had... did so cutt their coates accordinge to their cloth, that although their charge did far surmount that which was allowed to mayntayn the same, yitt by God's blessinge workinge soe marvelously wth their diligent labour, yt cam to passe that they for their parts had great cause of rejoysinge." (Genealogist, 1879, iii, p. 274) They were able to provide education for their oldest two sons, Giles and Robert. All their sons prospered and all their daughters were married. Within a few years of Euseby's death, four sons had estates in Northampton. Gregory, John and Henry were apprenticed to London merchants. They prospered and returned to buy estates in Northampton. These sons seem to be the ancestors of most of the Ishams in Northamton. Euseby's son Giles Isham succeded him at the Pytchley estate.
